Products
We use a variety of roofing products. Here are some of the options that we’re most familiar with:
New Zealand Steel
Most long-run steel roofing used in New Zealand is made here. It starts with iron sand from the coast, coal from Huntly, and limestone from Otorohunga, which is processed locally into roofing steel.
Pre-Painted Steel and Aluminium Roofing
Pre-painted long-run roofing is made by painting the steel or aluminium before it is formed into sheets. The metal is coated and baked in a factory, then rolled into coils.
These coils are later run through a roll former to create long-run roofing sheets in different profiles to suit your roof.
There are two New Zealand manufacturers of pre-painted steel roofing:
- Colorcote– made by Fletcher Steel
- COLORSTEEL®– made by New Zealand Steel
Both brands offer different coating systems to suit different environments.
Colorcote
ZinaCore®
Pre-painted steel roofing option suited to moderate conditions. It has an aluminium/zinc coating over the steel for corrosion protection.
Base metal thickness: 0.40 mm or 0.55 mm

MagnaFlow®
Designed for more exposed sites, including roofs close to the coast (as near as 100 m). It uses an aluminium/magnesium/zinc coating to give extra protection in harsh environments.

Alumigard™
A pre-painted aluminium roofing product for extreme coastal and marine environments. It uses marine-grade aluminium with a durable paint finish.

COLORSTEEL®
COLORSTEEL® is made by New Zealand Steel. Their older Endura and Maxx products have been replaced by a single product,
COLORSTEEL® Maxam™.
Maxam™
A pre-painted steel roofing product designed to cover most New Zealand environments, including coastal, inland, geothermal, and industrial areas.
It uses COLORSTEEL®’s Activate® coating, applied over a Zincalume® steel base with added magnesium for improved durability.

Altimate™
Designed for extreme environments, Altimate™ uses marine-grade aluminium as the base metal, with the Activate® coating applied to both sides.
